Rossville vs. Frontier at Tri-Central
The Rossville Hornets (9-15) gained an early, substantial lead on the Frontier Falcons (5-19) and never looked back, winning the game by a score of 77-45.
The Hornets began the game on a 17-0 run and only gave up four points in the opening quarter.
Rossville head coach Cory Dunn said his team wanted to set the tempo of the game early on and they had success in doing so.
“That’s one of the best starts we’ve had all season,” he said. “We got the ball out, we got them going, and we got good looks. We came out ready to play.”
Sophomore Blake Miller led the Hornets offensive attack with 28 points as the team’s only player to reach double-digits in scoring. Miller finished the game making 11-of-16 field goals, including 5-of-8 from 3-point range.
“He’s very capable of having games like that,” Dunn said of Miller. “He’s had some ups and downs with shooting. He had the injury there for a month and a half, so it’s taken him a while to get back, but I feel like he’s been back for a while now, and he’s finally getting his confidence back.”
Senior Elijah Beard led Rossville with seven rebounds and added five points. Sophomore Enrique Rangel (4 points) led the team with six assists and senior Clayton Howard (9 points) had a team-high four steals.
Rossville, the defending sectional champion, takes on the Faith Christian Eagles (9-14) in the semifinals Friday with the winner of that contest moving on to Saturday’s final. Rossville beat Faith Christian both times the two teams met in the regular season.
