The Rossville boys’ basketball team won Friday night’s non-conference game against Faith Christian 61-52.
It was Senior Night for the Hornets who have five seniors this year; Kyle Bordner, Clayton Howard, Neil Beery, Elijah Beard and Joshua Kessler.
Kessler has been out for the end part of the season due to injury.
“It is sad, but I’m ecstatic that we won,” he said after the game.
Howard led the Hornets with 21 points. He went 10-of-13 from the 2-point line.
In the first quarter it was a very tight game with Rossville only leading by a 4-point margin with a 15-11 score at the end of the quarter.
Both teams played a tight man-to-man defense, which caused several steals throughout the game. Faith Christian played in a full-court man-to-man defense for most of the game as well.
With 1:47 left in the second quarter, Faith Christian was in double bonus because Rossville already had 10 fouls against them. Most of these fouls were caused by the Eagles repeated drives to the basket on offense.
At halftime it was 31-25 with Rossville leading.
“The most challenging part of the game was when Faith went on a run when we were up two,” Bordner said. “We called a timeout, and I told the guys we needed to step it up. We ended up going on a run right after the timeout.”
Bordner had eight points for the game.
At the end of the third quarter it was 41-38 with Rossville still hanging on to the lead.
Faith Christian shot 12-of-23 at the free throw line in the game and 6-of-13 from the 3-point line. Rossville’s tight man-to-man defense and fast breaks resulted in a Senior Night win.
“I love playing this game and winning with my senior guys,” Bordner said of his last home game.
