ROSSVILLE – A dominant all-around performance led the Rossville Hornets to a 54-10 win over the Faith Christian Eagles during Tuesday’s non-conference girls’ basketball game.
After a scoreless opening two minutes, the Eagles hit a 2-pointer to take the lead. Rossville quickly answered as sophomore Keely Criswell drove in two points to tie the game. She finished the game with six points and a team-high 10 rebounds.
Rossville freshman Maggie Deboy hit three consecutive baskets to give the Hornets an 8-2 lead in the first quarter. She finished the game with a team-high 14 points, hitting 7-of-12 field goals (58 percent).
Hornets’ senior Danielle Memmer, who had four points and three rebounds, capped off the scoring in the opening quarter with an offensive rebound and putback, which gave Rossville a 10-4 lead after eight minutes of play.
Rossville held Faith Christian scoreless in the second quarter as the Hornets piled on 21 points to take a 31-4 lead going into halftime. Junior Taylor Zink (six points) and senior Breanna Wainscott (three points) each hit second quarter 3-pointers to help extend the Hornet lead to 27 points.
Criswell opened the scoring in the second half by hitting a pair of free throws. Deboy then had one of her three steals and drove down for two points, making it 35-4, Rossville.
The Eagles scored their first basket since late in the first quarter with three minutes left in the third quarter, which made it 40-6, Rossville. Rossville held Faith Christian scoreless during that 14 ½ minute span.
Rossville outscored Faith Christian 17-4 in the third quarter and 6-2 in the fourth quarter for the 44-point victory. The Hornets ended a six-game losing streak and improved to 5-11 on the season with the win.
