Hornets win majority of matches
Although team victories won’t show it, Rossville’s wrestling program competed much better at the Harrison tournament than it did a year ago.
Rossville won only one of its 10 team duals during the two-day tournament. However, the Hornets won 56 individual matches and lost 40. Last year, they won 17 and lost 57.
The Hornets weren’t able to win many matches because they forfeited several weight classes as they had no one to fill them during the weekend. Those matches gave their opponent between 24-30 free points each match.
Rossville’s only team victory came against Hammond Gavit. RHS won the dual 55-12 and won four of the five head-to-head matches in the dual.
The Hornets beat two schools in head-to-head matches and tied two other schools, but the forfeited weight classes cost them victories. They beat Laporte 7-2 and South Bend Riley 6-3 head-to-head, while tying Fairfield and Angola 4-4 in individual matches. Laporte won the team dual 46-36 before SB Riley won 44-33. Fairfield won 54-27 and Angola beat the Hornets 45-30.
Rossville will next compete on Saturday at Maconaquah.
